University of New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM

University of New Mexico has selected the Student Secure health insurance plan(s) for international students because they provide comprehensive coverage at affordable rates. Students can choose 1 of 4 plans.

Students are encouraged to review each plan’s benefits, exclusions and frequently asked questions to familiarize themselves with how the plans work and what they cover. Please follow these steps to purchase coverage:

  1. Read the policy information and select the plan that is best for you. READ what is covered and what is NOT for each plan.
  2. Select the Apply Online link to start the purchase process.
  3. Dates of coverage:
Exchange students MUST buy one of these policies from the date of arrival in the US until the date of departure from the US (check your DS-2019 for program dates).
Degree-seeking students who will purchase one of these policies as their primary insurance need to make sure to buy the insurance until at least the start of the next semester. Those purchasing this insurance only for their arrival period (until their primary insurance starts) should buy until September 30th for Fall and February 28th for Spring so that you are covered until your primary insurance begins. If you want to continue coverage, remember to renew before the expiration date! If you allow the coverage to expire, your deductibles and waiting periods will start over.
  4. Once you have purchased coverage, you will need to download your visa letter in the Student Zone to upload in the myGEO portal as proof of coverage.
  5. Students are responsible for having health insurance coverage for their ENTIRE stay in the U.S. You should never let your insurance policy expire as long as you remain in the U.S.!
